Young Myanmar Diplomats Visit the ASEAN Centre

A delegation of young diplomats from Myanmar visited MGIMO on 26 September 2013. They came to Moscow as part of the programme 'Generation Next', which aims to introduce young foreign representativeswho have the potential to become prominent administrators, politicians, businessmen and academics to contemporary Russia. This programme is organised by Rossotrudnichestvo.

The five guests from Myanmar, who were aged between 25 and 35, were received in the ASEAN Centre by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Public Relations Andrei. Silantiev and Director of the ASEAN Centre Victor Sumsky. During the discussion which followed, the history and current role of MGIMO in training Russian and foreign diplomats, and specialists in international relations, as well as the activities of the ASEAN Centre, were discussed. Andrei Silantiev and Victor Sumsky answered questions about the opportunities for studying in Russia (in particular, in MGIMO) available to young people in ASEAN countries, including Myanmar. Second-year Master's student Aaron Chee (Singapore), who attended the meeting, shared his personal experience of studying and living in Russia.
