Mahathir bin Mohamad on the Contemporary World

This year, the Institute of Far Eastern Studies (IFES) of the Russian Academy of Sciences has published a book entitled Mahathir bin Mohamad on the Contemporary World: A Conversation with Vitaly Naumkin.

This book was the product of IFES Director Vitaly Naumkin's visit to Putrajaya, where he managed to meet the father of the 'Malaysian miracle' Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, discuss the most topical global issueswith him, speak about the role of Islam in the modern world, and Malaysia's historical experience and current model of development.


Roundtable in Kuala Lumpur

On the 4th of October 2013, a roundtable session for Russian and Malaysian business representatives was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was organised by the Russia-Malaysia Business Council (headed by Vladimir Sautov).

During the roundtable session, the issue of developing economic cooperation between Russia and Malaysia was discussed. Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Liudmila Vorobieva took part in the discussions.


Dr. Ian Storey Gives a Talk at the ASEAN Centre

Senior Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (Singapore) Dr. Ian Storey visited the ASEAN Centre and gave a talk on the current state of the South China Sea dispute.

In his speech, Dr. Storey described the latest trends in relations between the Southeast Asian states, China and the US, all of whom have influenced the situation in the South China Sea in some way or another. He further analysed the foreign policy considerations behind the actions of countries involved in the dispute, and outlined a few scenarios that he felt could describe future developments in the South China Sea.


Philippine Congressmen Visit the ASEAN Centre

The ASEAN Centre was visited by a delegation of businessmen and representatives of socio-political organisations from the Philippines, who were in Russia as part of the Rossotrudnichestvo programme 'Generation Next'.

Under the auspices of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Cultural Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), MGIMO has already hosted delegations of young representatives from political, social, academic and business circles in South Africa, China, India, Brazil, Japan, Canada, the US and the CIS countries in September this year.
