Mr Khalek Awang, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF), visited the ASEAN Centre. Mr Khalek presented the centre with a book by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, dedicated to the main ideas behind the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM).

When the ASEAN Centre was officially opened in June 2010, Mr Djauhari Oratmangun, then-Director General for ASEAN Cooperation at the Indonesian MFA, was invited as a distinguished guest. Two years later, in October 2012, Mr Djauhari visited the Centre once again, this time in his capacity as the Indonesian Ambassador to Russia and Belarus.

When last summer Aaron Chee, a Singaporean who was studying in England, visited Moscow for the first time, he was utterly fascinated by the sights, sounds and idiosyncracies of life in the capital of Russia. He resolved to come back, and therefore opted to pursue his graduate studies at MGIMO.

The Centre was honoured to welcome the recently appointed Singaporean Ambassador to the Russian Federation, H.E. Ms Lim Kheng Hua, on September 20, 2012. Ms Lim met with Director Dr. Victor Sumsky, as well as two Singaporean students: Aaron Chee, a first-year Masters in Political Science (Politics and Economics of Eurasia) student at MGIMO, and Yoong Ren Yan, an undergraduate at Oxford University (UK) currently interning at the Centre.

Yoong Ren Yan, 19, is a Singaporean student currently on a three-week internship at the ASEAN Centre in MGIMO. He is involved primarily in adding material to and polishing the English language version of the Centre’s website. Ren Yan is a second-year undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. This is his first time in Russia and Moscow.
