ASEAN Centre continues its series of online lectures titled “ASEAN Academic Days 2021 in MGIMO”. The next guest lecturer is Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan, Senior Advisor, Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya and Board Member at the Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS). The event will take place on May 12, 2021 (Wednesday) via Zoom platform at 10:30 AM (Moscow time) / 3:30 PM (Kuala-Lumpur time).

The invited speaker will share his views on the perspectives of the ASEAN Regional Forum and its role in Southeast Asia and in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mohamed Jawhar Hassan is a prominent researcher and expert from Malaysia. He began his career in the Government. He was Executive Secretary, Border Security Committee, Malaysia/Thailand; Principal Assistant Secretary, National Security Council; and Under-Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. He retired early from government service and joined ISIS Malaysia as Deputy Director-General in May 1990. He eventually assumed the position of Chairman and Chief Executive and retired as Chairman of ISIS Malaysia on 8 January 2015. Tan Sri Jawhar has also been Chairman, the New Straits Times Press. He is also Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and at the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS). Mohamed Jawhar Hassan is Malaysia’s Expert and Eminent Person (EEP) for the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). His publications cover such areas as ASEAN's relations with the major powers, human security, trust building, global terrorism, countering corruption, the development of regional security organizations, and Malaysian political change.
