16th International Conference Lodz East Asia Meeting “Rethinking Southeast Asia in World Politics” by the University of Lodz

On June 24-25 the University of Lodz (Poland) held an annual international conference “Lodz East Asia Meeting”. Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, ASEAN Centre Acting Director, Associate Professor at the Department of Asian and African Studies (MGIMO), Ms. Valeria Vershinina, ASEAN Centre Expert, and Yulia Rachinskaya-Spivakova and Lili Ong, doctoral candidates at the Department of Asian and African Studies (MGIMO) specializing in Southeast Asian studies, participated in the online event.

ASEAN Centre experts were among the speakers at the panel discussion “Role of ASEAN in World Politics”. Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova analysed the prospects for maintaining an ASEAN-centered model of international relations in Southeast Asian region amid strategic uncertainty. Ms. Valeria Vershinina's speech was devoted to a comparative analysis of Vietnam ASEAN chairmanship agenda in 2010 and 2020. During the Q&A session, Valeria Vershinina answered a question about the degree of influence of nationalism on Vietnam's foreign policy.

“Lodz East Asia Meeting” is a large international platform designed for exchanging views between European and Asian academics on development issues in Southeast Asia. The event program includes expert panels and round tables as well as discussion sessions on recent publications and films about Southeast Asia.
