ASEAN Centre Interns

From February to April, the students of the Master's program of the Faculty of International Relations Julia Tomskaya, Alexander Tumaikin, Alexander Pichugin, Evgeniy Antonov, and Alexander Leonov would have pre-graduation internship at the ASEAN Centre.

During the years of their studies, students took an active part in the student and scientific life of the university. Welcome our new interns!

Julia Tomskaya

Master student of the MGIMO Faculty of International Relations in the field of study "Foreign Regional Studies" (Asia and Africa). Bachelor's degree graduate of the Faculty of International Journalism of MGIMO in 2019 (diploma topic: "French-language media in Southeast Asia").

Topic of master's thesis: "Prospects for cooperation between the African Union and ASEAN".

Experience in professional and social activities:

  • Chairman of the Southeast Asia Club of the Students Scientific Society at MGIMO;
  • Participant of the internship "Migration processes and migration policy in the countries of Southeast Asia" program, organized by the Department of Demographic and Migration Policy of MGIMO and the ASEAN Centre (Thailand, 2018);
  • Member of the Russian delegation at the Fifth Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit (Philippines, 2019);
  • Winner of the scientific research competition held within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Forum "Migration Bridges in Eurasia" with the subject "Migration processes in the countries of Southeast Asia" (Moscow, 2020).

Languages: French, English

Research interests: regional integration in Asia and Africa, migration processes in Southeast Asia, media in Southeast Asia.

Alexander Tumaikin

Master student of the MGIMO Faculty of International Relations in the field of study "Foreign Regional Studies" (Asia and Africa).

Bachelor's degree graduate of the Faculty of International Relations of MGIMO 2019 (diploma topic: "The main directions of Indonesia's military-technical cooperation with the countries of the world (1998-2019)").

Topic of master's thesis: "Strategic partnership Russia - ASEAN as a component of the military security of the countries of Southeast Asia: national and regional dimension".

Experience in professional and social activities:

  • Participant of the Youth Environmental Program (Russian Youth Environmental Program, USA, 2016);
  • Participant of the internship "Migration processes and migration policy in the countries of Southeast Asia" program, organized by the Department of Demographic and Migration Policy of MGIMO and the ASEAN Centre (Thailand, 2018);
  • Member of the Russian delegation at the Fifth Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit (Philippines, 2019);
  • Speaker at the panel discussion on digitalization issues at the Third Baltic Democratic Student Conference (Indonesia, 2019);
  • Winner of the scientific research competition held within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Forum "Migration Bridges in Eurasia" with the subject "Migration processes in the countries of Southeast Asia" (Moscow, 2020).

Research interests: Russia-ASEAN cooperation, Indonesian foreign policy, military-technical cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Alexander Pichugin

Master student of the MGIMO Faculty of International Relations, program "Global Politics and International Political Analysis".

Graduate of the Bachelor's degree in "International Relations" of the Siberian Federal University 2019 (Krasnoyarsk) (diploma topic: "Rivalry between China and the United States in the Asia-Pacific region").

Topic of master's thesis: "The process of transformation of the regional order in the Indo-Pacific region."

Experience in professional and social activities:

  • Internship in the Department of External Relations of the Department of the Head of the City of the Administration of the city of Krasnoyarsk.

Languages spoken: English, Spanish, Chinese.

Research interests: modern international relations and the formation of the modern world order, foreign policy and security of the Russian Federation, multilateral negotiations, geopolitics, international relations in East Asia.

Evgeniy Antonov

Master student of the MGIMO Faculty of International Relations, program "Global Politics and International Political Analysis".

Bachelor's degree graduate of the Faculty of Finance and Banking of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (RANEPA) 2019 (diploma topic: "Hedging financial risks using derivative financial instruments").

Topic of master's thesis: "Russian-Japanese relations in the context of the activation of Russia's policy in East Asia."

Experience in professional and social activities:

  • Member of the Organizing Committee of the Gaidar Forum (2016-2017);
  • Participant of the XII International Financial and Economic Forum “Blockchain: Finance and Technologies” (September 2017);
  • Participant of the young researches session held as part of the 1st Khrustalev Readings “Methodology and practice of international situations applied analysis” (May 2020).

Research interests: Russia's policy in East Asia and the problems of socio-economic development of Siberia and the Far East.

Alexander Leonov

Master student of the Faculty of International Relations of MGIMO in the field of study "Global politics and international political analysis"

Bachelor's degree graduate of the Faculty of International Relations, MGIMO 2019 (diploma topic: "Vietnam-American relations at the present stage (1995-2019)").

Topic of master's thesis: "Vietnam's multi-vector policy as an example of balancing in a transforming world order."

Experience in professional and social activities:

  • Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Fund Grantee;
  • Member of the Russian delegation at the Fifth Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit, co-chair of the Committee on Economic Development (Philippines, 2019);
  • Member of the Vietnam Economic Forum Zarubezh-Expo Organizing Committee (Vietnam, 2019);
  • Member of the Russian delegation at the Fourth Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit (Cambodia, 2016);
  • Member of the AIESEC program “English teacher for children” (Republic of Korea, 2016).

Languages spoken: Vietnamese, English.

Research interests: Contemporary Vietnam foreign policy, territorial disputes in the South China Sea, ASEAN, Southeast Asia.
