Book Presentation by Ambassador of Vietnam to Russia Ngo Duc Manh


On March 5, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia H.E. Mr. Ngo Duc Manh presented his book "70 Years of the Great Journey of Vietnam and Russia Hand in Hand", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The ASEAN Center Director Dr. Victor Sumsky, Deputy Director Ms. Ekaterina Tronevskaya, Senior Expert Ekaterina Koldunova and Analyst Ms. Valeria Vershinina attended the solemn ceremony of the book release.

Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh presented the book and talked about the story of book creation. The distinguished guests such as H.E. Mr. Gennadi Bezdetko, Deputy Director of the Third Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, H.E. Mr. Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Mr. Boris. Buyanov, Chairman of the Russian-Vietnamese Friendship Society, and other representatives of Russian and Vietnamese state bodies. The event was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, including Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry Ms. Natalia Stapran.

The book content illustrates the history of bilateral relations and consists of five chapters, which provide a brief overview on Russia and Vietnam, it also contains a short biography of the first president of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh, during his life in the USSR, and also describes the most major evolution stages of bilateral cooperation. The book is rich in rare archival documents and photographs, which were selected from the materials and archives of the Russian and Vietnamese Foreign Ministries, leading Russian and Vietnamese news agencies, as well as from personal collections.

In the chapter devoted to the history and development of Vietnamese studies in Russia, the MGIMO school received a high evaluation of the training level. Among the prominent graduates of Vietnamese studies, Vadim Serafimov, Rashit Khamidullin, Andrey Tatarinov and Andrey Kovtun have ambassadorial rank. The book also notes the contribution of the ASEAN Centre in the development of Russian-Vietnamese relations in the field of education and science. A number of youth events organized by Russian and Vietnamese MGIMO students are also mentioned there. Among it are the annual Vietnam Day, organized by the Vietnamese community of MGIMO, as well as the Russian-Vietnamese Youth Forum, held at the University in September 2019.
