ASEAN Centre at World Expo 2021


On December 13-17 Ms. Ekaterina Tronevskaya, Deputy Director of the ASEAN Centre and Dr. Valeria Vershinina, Centre‘s expert paid a working visit to Dubai, UAE to attend the international exhibition World Expo 2021 and to participate in the scheduled events at the Russian and ASEAN pavilions.

This year the ASEAN pavilion that showcases the Association’s history and its activities was presented at the World Expo Mobility Distract. The Pavilion’s key concept is “Creating Opportunities for the Peoples of ASEAN”. At the request of the ASEAN Secretariat and MFA of Russia, the ASEAN Centre donated several books and souvenirs devoted to the history of Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership to be displayed at the ASEAN pavilion.

On December 13 World Expo celebrated “ASEAN Honour Day” that started with a parade and followed by a special opening ceremony which was graced by H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, ASEAN Secretary-General and H.E. Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State to the United Arab Emirates Cabinet. H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi underlined in his welcoming remarks that the ASEAN pavilion together with the other ten pavilions of ASEAN members-states demonstrate the hospitality and generosity of the Southeast Asian people and boundless opportunities in the region. Minister Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh, for his part, noted that the ASEAN presence at World Expo highlights its successful integration and ASEAN ‘s significant role in solving global and regional issues.

On December 14-15 the Synergy University held an international forum “Russia: The Future of Education” at the Russian pavilion. The Russian and foreign experts exchanged their views on actual trends in higher education, the current challenges that universities face today, and the role of business schools and supplementary education.
