The 4th Russia-Thailand Round Table (RTRT)


On December 6, 2022, MGIMO University in cooperation with “Sirius” Educational Center hosted the 4th Russia-Thailand Round Table (RTRT) on the education for gifted children.

RTRT on the education for the gifted children is an annual event that takes place in Russia and Thailand by rotation. The idea of hosting this event comes from Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the elder sister of the King of Thailand. The first round table was organized in Thailand in 2018.

Dr. Andrey Baykov, MGIMO Vice-Rector for Science and Research, presented welcoming remarks. In his speech he pointed out that the history of Russia-Thailand diplomatic relations, which celebrate their 125th anniversary this year, started with the educational cooperation.

Ms. Waraphanee Damrongmanee, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand, highlighted the importance of educational track and experience exchange between the Russian and Thailand educational centres. Dr. Khunying Sumonta Promboon, Chair of the TRRT Working Group, told the audience about the history and outcomes of the previous round-tables and expressed her hope that this cooperation format will continue to be productive and will help to establish new contacts in the framework of this year’s Moscow and Sochi visits.

Ms. Maria Matveyeva, Adviser of the Head of “Sirius” Education Center for the International activity, in her welcoming remarks mentioned that the Centre intends to develop its partnership with Thai colleagues.

Dr. Thanit Pewnim, Member of Education Council of the Ministry of Education, Thailand, expressed his gratitude to the ASEAN Centre and MGIMO University for their help in organizing and hosting this year’s round table. Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, Director of the ASEAN Centre was a moderator of the RTRT discussion.

Mr. Ilya Demakov, Gorchakov Lyceum Director, and Mr. Mikhail Mokrinsky, Director of “Letovo School”, presented their best practices and methods of education for the gifted children. Dr. Evgeniya Zakharova, Research Fellow of the Center for Spatial Analysis in International Relations, presented the Director of the Centre Dr. Igor Okunev’s publications on creative methods in teaching geography and political geography.

In the framework of the Moscow part of the visit the Thai delegation visited “Letovo School”, Gorchakov Lyceum and Skoltech Institute of Science and Technology. Another part of the delegation’s visit will take place in Sochi in the “Sirius” Educational Centre.

Thai delegation consists of representatives of the Ministry of Education of Thailand, Directors of Thailand’s leading high schools and universities. Aadditional information on the RTRT can be found on the official website.
