On November 23, 2022 Director of the ASEAN Centre Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova and the Centre experts Dr. Valeria Vershinina and Dr. Nikita Kuklin took part in the thematic session “Global Partnership for Sustainable Development (SDG 17)” within the framework of the International Conference “For Sustainable Development of Civilization: Cooperation, Science, Education, Technology”, which was organized by the People’s Friendship University from November 22 to 26.

Expert of the Centre Dr. Nikita Kuklin moderated the session and the discussion following its results. Director of the ASEAN Centre, Associate Professor of the Department of Asian and African Studies Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova delivered a presentation on the topic “Southeast Asia. The Impact of the Sustainable Development Goals Strategy on the Southeast Asian countries’ development”, in which she assessed in detail the impact of international actions of achieving the SDG on the Southeast Asia countries developmental strategies. It was noted that the SDGs are an important strategic benchmark for the domestic and foreign policies of the regional players, and also contribute to the integration of regional initiatives into the global sustainable development agenda.

The Expert of the ASEAN Centre Dr. Valeria Vershinina presented the topic “Southeast Asia. Experience of SDG 17 Implementation in Vietnam” and shared with the participants a detailed overview of Vietnam’s background in building mutually beneficial regional cooperation to promote sustainable development. It is also important that the presentation reviewed the experience of Vietnam's domestic SDGs implementation policy in national and regional initiatives.

The conference session ended up with the expert discussion on the prospects for further SDGs implementation, taking into account the complicated geopolitical situation. The discussants, represented by the young researchers and students, came to the conclusion that it is necessary to support the SDG program, since it is in the interests of all parties and is aimed at common global development, regardless of their political views and international actors’ diplomatic positions today.
