Thai Festival in Moscow


On August 5-7, the Thai Festival took place at the Hermitage Garden, Moscow. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Government of Moscow and dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Russia-Thailand diplomatic relations and the 25th anniversary of Moscow-Bangkok relations.

At the opening ceremony H.E. Sasiwat Wongsawat, Ambassador of Thailand to Russia, and Mr. Viacheslav Manuylov, Deputy Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, welcomed the audience with their welcoming remarks and highlighted the significance of this festival aimed to strengthen cultural ties between two countries. Among the event distinguished quests were H.E. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Head of the Department of Diplomacy in MGIMO, H.E. Igor Bailen, Ambassador of the Philippines to Russia, Dr. Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation, and diplomats from the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines in Moscow.

The event program also included “Moscow Cossack Choir” and Thai traditional dance performances, fashion show by Thai and Russian designers. At the end of the ceremony, the festival guests got acquainted with Thai music performed by famous singer Songsit Roongnophakunsri, jazz artist Pathorn Srikaranonda and jazz band.

Various master classes and performances by Muay Thai boxers were organized in the framework of the three-day event.

The festival was attended by Dr. Valeria Vershinina, Ms. Kira Tabunova, Experts of the ASEAN Centre, and Ms. Daria Borisova, lecturer of the Department of Chinese, Vietnamese, Laotian and Thai languages in MGIMO.
