On September 2, 2023, a delegation of Young Ambassadors of Thailand visited MGIMO. Young Ambassadors is a group of Thai schoolchildren travelling to Moscow and Saint Petersburg under the program of the MFA of Thailand.

MGIMO students majoring in Thai language, MGIMO’s lecturers and ASEAN Centre’s staff welcomed warmly the Thai schoolchildren. The meeting started with an interactive introduction. ASEAN Centre’s Director Ekaterina Koldunova told the delegation about MGIMO University, its traditions of Thai studies and Thai language teaching. Waraphanee Damrongmanee, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand presented the delegation and explained that their mission was to establish friendly contacts with the Russian youth, disseminate information about Thai culture and study the history of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand.

The second year students of School of International Relations told the Thai delegation about customs and traditions of various peoples leaving in Russia and presented a short quiz. The material for presentation were prepared under the guidance of Lecturer of the Department of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao Languages Daria Borisova.

Thai schoolchildren told about Young Ambassadors program, their country and the provinces they were coming from, Thailand’s customs and culture. They also performed several Thai songs and traditional dances as well as an element of Thai boxing show.

The meeting was organized by the ASEAN Centre and was conducted in Thai language. The previous group of Young Ambassadors of Thailand visited MGIMO in June this year.
