On November 8, 2023 MGIMO and Yangon University of Foreign Languages (Myanmar) signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Zaw Lynn Myint, Charge d’Affaires of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Russian Federation, Mr. Pavel Klabukov, Deputy Chief of the Russian Diplomatic Mission to Myanmar, and Dr. Kyi Shwin, Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages. MGIMO side was represented by Dr. Vladimir Morozov, Vice-Rector for Human Recourses, and Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, Director of the ASEAN Centre. Participants of the meeting also were representatives of MGIMO International Relations Department, representatives of the Embassy of Myanmar in Moscow and Yangon University of Foreign Languages, and MGIMO 1st year BA students, majoring in the Burmese language studies.
During the meeting both sides welcomed the signing of this Memorandum that will give a start to a new chapter of inter-university cooperation and create new opportunities for students and academic exchange. Mr. Zaw Lynn Myint, Charge d’Affaires of the Republic of Union of Myanmar to the Russian Federation, stressed that Myanmar highly appreciated the Russian education and especially the quality of training in MGIMO. In return, Mr. Pavel Klabukov noted that education is one of the most important and perspective areas of bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Kyi Shwin, Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages, emphasized the importance of sighing of this Memorandum and expressed hope for fruitful and mutually beneficially cooperation. Dr. Vladimir Morozov, Vice-Rector for Human Recourses, told about MGIMO contacts with Myanmar partners and about the outcomes of joint events, especially of a Russia-Myanmar conference hosted in MGIMO in April this year (https://mgimo.ru/about/news/main/conference-75th-anniversary-russia-myanmar-diplomatic-relations/). Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Pro-Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages and Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, ASEAN Centre’s Director, in their remarks, gave an overview of mutual contacts that eventually made it possible to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. Namely, representatives from Yangon University of Foreign Languages on many occasions participated in the annual conference “Russia and ASEAN in the Asia-Pacific Region”, the Russia-ASEAN University forums and in other Centre’s events.
Following the meeting, MGIMO and Yangon University of Foreign Languages signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
