From October 13 to 15, within the framework of the 14th RISA Convention, the ASEAN Centre in cooperation with its partners organized the annual international conference "Russia and ASEAN in the Asia-Pacific Region: Dynamics of Cooperation, Regional Processes and Global Context". This year the conference was dedicated to the 55th anniversary of ASEAN.

ASEAN Centre presents a special interview with H.E. Carlos D. Sorreta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the Russian Federation, in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Russia and the Philippines. This interview opens dialog series with Ambassadors of the ASEAN member states to Russia, in which the guest speakers touch upon different bilateral relations issues, the most interesting cooperation projects and the Ambassadors’ personal experience and impressions on Russia.

ASEAN Academic Days 2021: Lecture by Tan Sri Jawhar Hassan

On May 12 Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan, Senior Advisor, Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya and Board Member at the Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) delivered a lecture on the ASEAN Regional Forum role in the regional security cooperation. The event concluded the spring semester program “ASEAN Academic Days 2021 in MGIMO” and was moderatored by Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, ASEAN Centre Acting Director, Associate Professor of the Department of Asian and African Studies at MGIMO.

March 10th, the "ASEAN Academic Days 2021 at MGIMO", consisting of a new cycle of online lectures and a series of academic and educational events, began at MGIMO. The initiative, launched by the ASEAN Centre, has been running for the past two years. The first guest speaker was Marty Natalegawa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia (2009-2014), who spoke on “ASEAN and changing regional dynamics”.

“The Lighter and Funnier Side of Diplomacy”: book presentation by H.E. M.W.Supriyadi

November 23rd, within the framework of the ASEAN Center's series of educational events "ASEAN Academic Days 2020", an online presentation of the recently published book "The Lighter and Funnier Side of Diplomacy" by Indonesian diplomat Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi was organized. H.E. Muhamad Wahid Supriyadi is an experienced and well-known diplomat, who has spent his entire career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served in a variety of appointments at home and abroad, including as Consul General in Melbourne (2004-2007), Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (2008-2011) and as Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus (2016-2020).

On November 16th, the third online-lecture within the framework of the course of public lectures “ASEAN Academic Days 2020” was held by the ASEAN Centre. The third speaker was Dr. Jittipat Poonkham (PhD Aberystwyth University; MPhil Oxford University), Director of International Studies Program and Assistant Professor in International Relations in the Faculty of Political Science at the Thammasat University (Thailand).

On October 21st, the second online-lecture within the framework of the course of public lectures “ASEAN Academic Days 2020” was held by the ASEAN Centre. The second speaker was Dr. Natalia Stapran, MGIMO graduate 2000, Director of the Department for Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. The lecture was dedicated to the today’s economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN and its future prospects.

On September 25th, the online-meeting with Bilahari Kausikan opened the course of public lectures “ASEAN Academic Days 2020”. The course is designed and carried out by the ASEAN Centre in MGIMO. The first speaker was Bilahari Kausikan, a prominent Singaporean diplomat and expert, who served in a variety of appointments at home and abroad, including as Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, and as the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry
